Russian composer Alexey Popkov and representative of Turkmenistan Merdan Byashimov became the winners.
The winners of the V International Composers Competition, which took place in Sochi within the XII Winter Arts Festival, were two participants – Russian composer Alexei Popkov and a representative of Turkmenistan Merdan Byashimov.
“The most remarkable thing is that everyone who showed their work today and their works are completely different worlds. There is no globalization: what we all heard is all unique,” Bashmet said.
The jury decided to award all participants in the competition. Representatives of Russia Miroslav Chernousov and Anastasia Vabishchevich became the diploma winners of the competition. The jury recognized Tobias Fandel from Germany as the laureate of the third degree, the Russian composer Daniil Posazhennikov won the silver medal.
“I came up with a piece, for a couple of months it was forming in my head and in January before the competition I wrote down the notes in about a week. I tried not to count on anything in advance, according to the principle “do what you must and be what will be”. Of course, I am honoured to win”, – Popkov told reporters.
17 applications were submitted from four countries of the world, six composers from Russia, Germany and Turkmenistan, selected based on the results of correspondence auditions, entered the second round. On Friday, February 22nd, in the Sochi Chamber and Organ Music Hall, the finalists presented their compositions in the genre of a piano ensemble lasting 10-15 minutes (trio, quartet or quintet) to the audience.
