The 2020 show program has become even more ambitious and multi-genre.
Several world premieres took place in Sochi over 11 days within the XIII Winter International Festival under the direction of Yuri Bashmet, the official website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation reports.
The festival receives more and more support and attention every year, said the artistic director of the forum, Yuri Bashmet. According to him, the show went through various stages, but immediately declared itself precisely as an arts festival based on classical music.
For the first time in Russia, an African performer Sona Yobartech performed within the framework of the show, playing the unique musical instrument kora, which is a mixture of guitar and harp. The jazz concert featured a five-time Grammy nominee American pianist Christian Sands.
On the third day of the festival, the musical performance “Van Gogh. Letters to my brother” an actor of theatre and cinema, People’s Artist of Russia Evgeny Mironov, who was accompanied by the Moscow Soloists chamber ensemble, acted as a reader.
The audience was shown the play The Mother based on the fairy tale “The Story of a Mother” by Christian Andersen. The leading roles were performed by the prima ballerina of the Royal Ballet of London Natalia Osipova and Jonathan Goddard.
In addition to the events of the main program, the festival included the Beethoven Marathon, the Poet Tournament, Dancing with a Double Bass and the International Young Composers Competition.
