Beethoven marathon – Concert №3

“Beethoven’s Day” in the Organ Hall has become a kind of tradition, without which it is impossible to imagine the chamber program of the Sochi Winter Festival. This is a joint project of Maestro Yuri Bashmet and Sergey Roldugin, the Festival and the St. Petersburg House of Music, in which young talented musicians – artists of this famous scene of the northern capital – perform piano sonatas and chamber-instrumental cycles of the most revolutionary of the Viennese classics. If in his younger years piano and violin sonatas, trios and other instrumental ensembles served as a “creative laboratory” for the heir of Hyde and Mozart, a testing field for large-scale symphonic plans, then in the period of maturity and the last years of creativity it was in chamber music that Beethoven’s genius most boldly broke with tradition, rushing into the unknown distances of romanticism, and even looking into the twentieth century.…
However, this time there will be a lot of unusual things in the concert marathon program.

The core of the marathon will continue to be piano sonatas – from the dedicated to Haydn, but already quite authorial Sonate No. 2 (Op. 2 No. 2) to the almost “Schumannian”, romantic in spirit and mysterious in its mosaic penultimate (No. 31 Op. 110).
They will be performed by Elizaveta Kluchereva, winner of the 50th International Concertino Prague Competition, Elizaveta Ukrainskaya, winner of the European Piano Competition in Bremen and the J. Motoram International Piano Competition in Manchester, composer and pianist, winner of the special prize of the VII International Competition “PianoTalents” (Milan) Evgeny Evgrafov, winner of the II International Online Piano Competition named after Svyatoslav Richter (South Korea) Vitaly Petrov, the winner of the international competition “Feurich Competition” in the nomination “Piano solo” (Vienna, Austria) and the winner of the Grant of the Mayor of Moscow 2018 and 2021 Daniil Umnov, the winner of the Gold Medal of the XX Youth Delphic Games of Russia Roman Sosnin, and a native of Sochi, Master of the F. Liszt Higher School of Music in Weimar, winner of a special prize at the International Piano Competition in Pontoise, (France) Andrey Zenin.

But special attention will be paid to chamber ensembles, in which Beethoven chose an unusual performing composition for our ears. Soloists of the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform a youth Duet for viola and cello (WoO 32), a Serenade for flute, violin and Viola (Op.25) and even such a rare genre as Equali (“Funeral Song”) for four trombones (WoO 30).
The culmination of one of the concerts will be a large-scale Piano Trio “Ghost” (Op. 70 No. 1), in the second part of which the composer developed sketches left over from the unfulfilled idea of the opera “Macbeth”. The trio will be performed by Timofey Doli (piano), the winner of the First prize and a number of special prizes of the International Academy of Piano Competition (Germany), Anna Savkina (violin), the winner of the V International Music Competition “Buchenau Spring” (Germany) and Grigory Filipchenko (cello), the winner of the VI International Music Competition “Vocation-Musician” (Moscow).
