Concert description

On February 21, the Organ Hall will host the final concert of the Department of Folk Instruments, which will summarize the results of its work. Within the framework of the International Music Academy in Sochi, the work of the “Folk Instruments Department” has been going on for the fifth year in a row and interest in this form of musical performance is only increasing. If in the first post-Soviet decades interest in this field of performance was lost, then in recent years virtuoso performers have been in demand again, mixed ensembles combining academic and folklore trends within the “crossover” style are increasingly appearing.
The “Folk Instruments Department” within the framework of the International Music Academy in Sochi is headed by the artistic director of the State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble “Russia” named after L.G. Zykina, the head of the Department of Folk Instruments of the State Music and Pedagogical Institute named after M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov Dmitry Dmitrienko.

The classes will be taught by the largest master virtuoso professors of leading Russian music universities. The world-famous bayanist, People’s Artist of Russia, Head of the Bayan and Accordion Department of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music Friedrich Lips; soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Associate Professor of the Bayan and Accordion Department of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music Maria Vlasova (accordion); the largest Russian domrist, composer, People’s Artist of Russia, laureate of the Government of the Russian Federation, Professor of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music Alexander Tsygankov; Soloist-concertmaster of the N. P. Osipov State Russian Folk Orchestra, associate Professor of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, Candidate of Art History Ekaterina Mochalova (domra).

Classes in the specialty “balalaika” will be conducted by Professor, Head of the Department of Plucked string Instruments of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music Andrey Gorbachev; soloist of the N. P. Osipov State Russian Folk Orchestra, teacher of the Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music Alexey Vrodlivets; as well as the legendary virtuoso of the exotic “double bass balalaika”, Honored Artist of Russia, associate professor of Folk Instrumental Art at the St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture and one of the founders of the “Terem Quartet” Mikhail Dzyudze.

Master classes on ensemble performance on folk instruments will be conducted by the artistic director and conductor of the Orchestra of National Instruments “Terema” (St. Petersburg), artist of the ensemble “Quintet of Four” Andrey Dolgov.
