The world’s most famous play will be performed in a new performance-concert format by Evgeny Mironov and the New Russia Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Bashmet.
The author of the idea of the concert performance was Evgeny Mironov, for him it is his third experience of performing “Hamlet” on stage: the actor has worked with the world’s leading stage directors Peter Stein and Robert Lepage, in the second case he even tried on all the roles of the Shakespearean tragedy. In Marina Brusnikina’s new production, he performs as a reader whose words are dramaturgically connected with the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. The outstanding composer turned to Shakespeare’s works more than once: the orchestra will perform his compositions from the film of the same name from ’67 and from Akimov’s production staged at the Vakhtangov Theatre in ’32.
Thus, thanks to the synthesis of music and words, the tragedy written by Shakespeare in five acts unfolds before the audience in all its magnitude in a matter of minutes, making it possible to feel how irreversibly the spring of destruction of Hamlet’s world unfolds.
“In the concert version it is impossible to read or perform the entire piece, if I don’t finish something the music finishes it for me and vice versa. I hope the combination of music and words will produce an effect that is impossible to achieve in a cinema or in a dramatic production – the possibility of showing the tragedy of the entire story in three dimensions, on the one hand and in a concentrated way, on the other. In this compressed musical-poetic story I have the difficult task as an artist: to touch each of the characters, to step into the character for a while, to step out of the character and into another, at the same time being in partnership with Shostakovich’s genius music.”
