The final chord of the anniversary festival in Sochi will be remembered for a true creative event with the participation of a “constellation of virtuosos” – bright and original musicians-performers who occupy leading positions in the musical and performing arts of our time.
A unique musician of our time – the Finnish pianist, conductor, composer Olli Mustonen is well known to the Russian public. Awarded the highest award of his state in the field of art (the “Pro Finlandia” medal), Mustonen regularly performs in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Olli Mustonen is a longtime friend of Yuri Bashmet and a guest of his music festivals, but each meeting with him remains an unforgettable event.
The legendary violin virtuoso, conductor and teacher Sergei Krylov took part in the very first Yuri Bashmet festival in Sochi back in 2007. Mstislav Rostropovich considered Krylov to belong to the “five best violinists in the world”. Laureate of the Grand Prix of the A. Stradivari International Competitions in Cremona and F. Kreisler Competition in Vienna, holder of the gold medal “Viotti d’Oro”, the order of “Paul Harris Fellow” and other Italian and international prizes, Krylov combines the achievements of the Russian and Italian violin schools in his art.
Hungarian cellist Istvan Vardai won his first victory in an international competition at the age of 15. On his account were the bronze medal of the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, special prize of the E. Feuermann Competition in Berlin, 1st Prize of the International Cello Competition in Geneva and the ARD Competition in Munich; today he himself is a professor at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, in 2019 he was the youngest member of the jury of cellists at the last Tchaikovsky Competition.
For many years Christina Mkhitaryan, the soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, has been collaborating with Maestro Bashmet. For the first time, as a rising star, she performed in Sochi in 2013 – at that time she just received the 1st prize at the international competition of Queen Sonya in Oslo and was in the public limelight. Now on her account are triumphant debuts in “Covent Garden ”and“ Metropolitan Opera ”, contracts with leading opera houses in Europe.
The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Russia that takes part in the concert is going to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2022. Young musicians gathered from different regions of Russia and regularly passing through competitive selection have firmly earned the fame of the orchestra, which adequately performs with world-class performers and masterfully reveals the beauty of classical masterpieces and modern scores.
